Happy Birthday, Delaney!!!

Today is Delaney's 8th Birthday and I thought it prudent to post a few pics and reflect on the last 8 years with her.

Delaney started out as a foster dog from Guide Dogs for the Blind. I had been working there almost 2 months when this little furball needed 24 hour care due to an auto immune disorder. I happily obliged since Kaz and I didn't have a dog and I was eager to help out. Little did Kaz know that one day, a bouncy , though rather sick, 4 month old lab puppy had wandered into our apartment (I didn't exactly tell him I was doing this:).

We've been hooked ever since...despite the vet costs, supplements, and yearly blood work-up. She has been with us almost as long as we've been married. She has gone on vacation with us to California, flown to Indiana, driven to and back to Canada, and travelled with our other dog 37 hours straight in a car from Oregon to Ohio. We couldn't have asked for a better, more loyal companion.

We also celebrate Charlie's birthday, too. He was a pound puppy and a playmate for Delaney (we don't know his birthday). What he lacks in intelligence, he makes up for with determination. He's about a year younger than Delaney and she puts up with him. He is thankful for another friend because I am sure he would not do well as an only dog. One look at his calm demenour in the shelter was all we needed to see (boy were we in for a shock!). Charlie runs on all 8 cylinders all the time.

I am thankful for our canines. I remember when Kaz was deployed how grateful I was to have my watchdog and my confidant. What would life be like without one?
